Episode Behind the Scenes

TREKCORE > TAS > MORE TRIBBLES, MORE TROUBLES > Behind the Scenes

The characters of Cyrano Jones, Captain Koloth and Korax were all seen in the classic episode "The Trouble With Tribbles."

Although Captain Koloth was voiced by James Doohan in this episode, the original actor, William Campbell, would later return to the role in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"'s episode "Blood Oath."

In an effects error, the Enterprise is seen projecting its tractor beam from it's cargo hatch/shuttlebay.

The Klingon stasis weapon introduced in this episode is never used by the Klingons again. However, a similar, though more powerful weapon was used by the Breen in the "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "The Changing Face of Evil."

David Gerrold also wrote "The Trouble With Tribbles."

David Gerrold also provided the voice for Korax.

Stanley Adams reprises his role of Cyrano Jones for this episode.

First appearance of the Klingon Tri-Blade Insignia.

In contrast with the tribbles seen in "The Trouble With Tribbles" as well as "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"'s "Trials and Tribble-ations", the tribbles in this episode come in only one colour -- pink, to help keep down the costs of animating dozens of multi-coloured tribbles; though it may just be a side-effect of the genetic engineering.

The tribbles don't shriek at the appearance of the Klingons this time around.

This episode was intended as an episode for the original "Star Trek"'s fourth season. When the show was cancelled and "The Animated Series" created, David Gerrold adapted it for this format.

Jadzia Dax claims in "Trials and Tribble-ations" that Captain Koloth regreted never facing Captain Kirk in battle, in spite of the altercation between the Enterprise and the Groth in this episode. But, since "Star Trek: The Animated Series" isn't considered canon, this line is forgiveable.

An animation error has the bridge turbolift doors drawn onto the wall of the room when Cyrano Jones offers Kirk Spican flame gems.

Another animation error has Captain Kirk wearing a commodore's rank stripes on his uniform when the tribbles pile on him.

Captain Kirk orders "Emergency Plan B" to which Scotty doesn't understand. Kirk would later order "Emergency Plan B" in "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier", and once again, Scotty has no clue what he's talking about.
